To mark the occasion of his 70th Birthday, Tom very generously booked out the whole of the Sherwood Forest YHA for the weekend and invited friends, family and wanderers (not mutually exclusive) along for a weekend of forest walks and other such birthday frivolities. We’ve never seen so many people at a WW weekend!
YHA Sherwood Forest is situated at Edwinstowe in Nottinghamshire, the location of the church where, apparently, Robin Hood and Maid Marian were married, but also the location of the scratty bit of remaining woodland which still goes by the name of Sherwood Forest.
On Saturday, most of us chose to head off into the Sherwood Forest nature reserve for a wander by a circuitous route towards the Major Oak. Saturday evening saw us back at the hostel to celebrate Tom’s birthday with much food, drinking, quiz taking, banter and generally tomfoolery.
On Sunday, some of us chose to Go Ape while others chose the more sedate option of the Sherwood Forest Railway.
See you in Scarborough and wander on!

Also, in a Wayne’s Wanderers website first, here are some videos from Saturday night –
