Helmsley on the North Yorkshire Moors – my first Wander.
This is going back a bit so I can’t remember much about it other than vague memories of inappropriate footwear, broken wrists and sullen hostel staff (or maybe it was just the Yorkshire accent…).
As was probably inevitable, we walked from Sutton Bank to Rievaulx Abbey on the Saturday and on the Sunday travelled on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
We’ve never been back to Helmsley since and I don’t think anyone has ever suggested it again, but maybe another trip there sometime could be interesting for nostalgia’s sake if nothing else.
Photographs are also available for download here.
