Thorney How
June 1995, the inaugural Wander, which involved not one but two hostels – Patterdale on the Friday night, never to be visited again and the now legendary Thorney How which has been visited many times since. Looking at the Patterdale hostel photograph below you can probably see why we never went back…
The original idea as I understand it was to go camping but after much debate this was sensibly transformed into hostelling and the rest, as they say, is history. Nearly 20 years later Wayne’s Wanderers is still going strong, with around 60 Wanders in the bag and a considerably changed membership, with a few notable exceptions 😉
